Payroll management systems are systems that HR or company owners view and manage employee payrolls. Payroll systems are used for salary management and monitoring. Payroll Management System is a project built using Java language and MS Access. Payroll management software gives the power to: Manage employee information efficiently, define the emoluments, deductions, leave, tax etc, generate pay-slip at the convenience of a mouse click, generate and manage the payroll processes according to the salary structure assigned to the employee, etc.
The following are the objectives of the project work.
- To analyse the drawback of existing Payroll Management System of Rehabilitations Plantations Ltd.
- To develop a Payroll Management System software for Rehabilitation Plantations Ltd.
- To determine the merits of the proposed system when it is implemented
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The present system of calculation of gross salaries and deductable amounts is a tedious task which involves risk. The organization use the traditional manual method of payroll processing, which involves pen and ink, adding machine, spread sheet etc. instead of computers, software and other computerized aids. It is time consuming and risky as it is more prone to errors. A small mistake can ruin the whole work and also it is difficult to point out where mistake has been occurred.
Therefore a new system is proposed, which rectifies the errors persisted in the current system. Hence, the project is entitled as Payroll Management System for Rehabilitation Plantations Limited, Punalur
- Time consuming.
- Difficult to handle data accurately.

Payroll system is the heart of any Human Resource System of an organization. The solution has to take care of the calculation of salary as per rules of the company, income tax calculation and various deductions to be done from the salary including statutory deductions like Income tax and provident fund deductions. It has to generate pay-slip, cheque summary and MIS reports.
It is understood that we are tired of managing thousand of odd papers, pay slips, payroll reports, and salary details and so on. This Application works in Multiple PC’s installed on multiple Computers but sharing same database by which users of different department can use it sitting at different locations simultaneously.
But in future we can make the Application where the database will be hosted in order to manage the all departments which will be located in different places and by keeping domain of Application as Online.

Microsoft Access is a database management system or DBMS. As the name implies, a DBMS helps you to manage data that’s stored in a computer database. If you want the flexibility to display, print and analyze your information in whatever format you wish, you first need to break down that information into small unit of data. In Access, you must break all your information into data that’s stored in tables. A table is just a collection of data that’s organized into rows and column.
The most important aspects of building an application is the design of tables or database schema. The data stored in the table must be organized in some manner, which is meaningful. The overall objectives in the process of the table design have been to treat data as organizational resources and as integrated whole. The organization of the data in a database aims to achieve.
